About MCTN
What are we doing?
At Macclesfield Community Tree Nursery, we are growing trees from seeds collected locally and getting those trees planted in the area. The reasons for this are to combat climate change, increase biodiversity for nature and just make our area a nicer place to live. We are not for profit and are doing this because we think it is the right thing to do. The trees we grow are free for anyone who will give them a good home.
There are various ways people could help out. On way is to come along to one of our growing sites and get your hands dirty. There are a variety of jobs that need doing all year round. You don't need any tree growing or gardening experience. In addition to nursery tasks, we sometimes also need people to collect and process tree seeds (get the seeds out of the berry, pod, fruit etc.) This could be done from the comfort of your own home if you want. If you'd like to join our team of back garden growers, we can provide seeds, seedlings or saplings for you to grow for us (or yourself; you keep as many as you want). We often need help with planting projects towards the end of the year. There's always a number of projects we are working on; something to suit everyone! We'd like to get as many people in the community involved as possible. Lots of people helping just a little bit would have a big effect on the number of trees we get in the ground.
